The OB/GYN Center now offers Robotic Surgery

What is a Robotic or da Vinci Hysterectomy?

da Vinci Hysterectomy is the latest minimally-invasive approach to hysterectomy. This Robotic-assisted surgery allows a woman to have a much faster recovery so she can return to her normal activities sooner.

The procedure is performed by making four small keyhole incisions into the patient’s abdomen. Small tubes are placed through these incisions, and then special instruments are inserted through the tubes. These devices are then connected to the amazing da Vinci “Robot” which is a highly advanced machine with four robotic arms. The surgeon then sits at a console where he or she looks into a viewfinder, that allows a three-dimensional, high-definition visualization of the patient’s abdomen and pelvis. The surgeon now uses specially designed instruments to coagulate blood vessels and remove abnormal tissue with more precision than traditional surgical approaches can offer. Even an extremely large uterus with multiple benign fibroid tumors can be removed from the patient’s body through very small incisions in narrow strips. At the conclusion of the operation, the surgeon leaves the console and moves back to the patient’s bedside where he or she undocks the Robot and removes the tubes from the patient’s abdomen. These tiny incisions are then closed with dissolvable sutures and skin glue.

Patients who undergo Robotic Hysterectomy are routinely able to get out of bed, walk around in their room, eat normal food and void without a catheter immediately after surgery. Only oral pain medication is needed. da Vinci hysterectomy patients go home the same day or the next morning and are back to work in one week or less.

Dr. Grover was the first OB/GYN physician trained in Robotic Surgery in Douglas County and was one of the first Robotics Surgerysurgeons to perform Robotic Surgery in the Denver area. He has done more benign Robotic Surgery Hysterectomies than any other Denver Metro doctor.

In addition to offering this state-of-art technology for his own patients, Dr. Grover has trained many other gynecologic surgeons in the Robotic Surgery technique in Denver as well as in Florida, Missouri, and Ohio. He has participated in the World Robotic Gynecology Congress and has completed both Basic and Masters Robotic Training courses at the Global Robotics Institute.

A More Precise Surgery

da Vinci Hysterectomy offers numerous potential benefits over traditional approaches, including:

  • Significantly less pain
  • Minimal blood loss
  • Fewer complications
  • Shorter hospital stay including the option for same-day surgery
  • Quicker recovery and return to normal activities
  • Small incisions for minimal scarring
  • Better outcomes and patient satisfaction, in many cases

This procedure is performed using the da Vinci Surgical System, a breakthrough surgical platform that enables gynecologists to operate with unmatched precision, dexterity and control. By overcoming the limitations of both traditional open and laparoscopic surgery, da Vinci is revolutionizing gynecologic surgery for women.

Are you a candidate for da Vinci Surgery?

da Vinci Surgery is an effective, minimally-invasive treatment option for a range of uterine conditions including gynecologic cancer and uterine fibroids. The board certified physicians at our practice are specially trained in da Vinci procedures. With numerous potential benefits over traditional approaches, da Vinci procedures are less painful, have fewer complications and shorter hospital stays.
